Perma Guard
Perma Guard is a commercial name for a select variety of Diatome, as in Diatomaceous Earth, except that this variety is unlike 99% of Diatomes in existence, there are approx 25,000 species. The Diatome is a microscopic marine creature, that exist in the sea, as well as in land based deposits where the sea once existed.

The Mechanism Of Action of Perma Guard is, twofold:-
-Firstly it dessicates the pest
-Secondly, it lacerates its exoskeleton due to its sharp particle morphology

Safety / OH and S:- Perma Guard has < 1% fibrous silica, making it the safest diatome in existence.

Diatomite has an ability to dampen the combustive / explosive tendency of grains, and thus has great benefits in OH + S context in relation to grain handling and storage.

Note: Chemical Resistance- Is the Industry “F” word, in that, like antibiotic resistance in the human health area, resistance to worm drugs (anthelmintics) is at the last frontier, i.e. there are no more drugs on the horizon, and there is huge resistance in all species, to all the drugs presently in use.

A recent world parasitology conference, held at Massey University NZ, attended by 700 delegates from all over the globe, (hosted by Prof. Bill Pomroy) concluded that resistance is the No.1 problem facing the Animal Health Industry at this time. Further, they also concluded that they didn’t have any “answers” to this formidable problem.

Perma Guard has the proven track record of acting via a non drug mechanism ( several, actually, it desiccates the external waxy coating of the insect, resulting in its drying up or dehydrating and dying; the second mechanism is that of lacerating the insects by virtue of its microscopic sharp (like coral) shape

What this all means, is, that there is No Resistance associated with use of diatoms as a worming agent

This being so, and it is,, and given the various imperatives mentioned above, it seems reasonable that we will, if we do it well, be able to get a significant share of the Anthelmintic market, both in Australia and overseas!
